About Project Stardust
Every year, nearly 2 million babies are lost to stillbirth globally — 24,000 in the US alone, or 1 in 150 pregnancies. More than half of these deaths are preventable with regular monitoring, yet most women receive no fetal imaging after their 20-week scan. The result: over 70% of growth-restricted babies who die before birth are never diagnosed in utero.
Project Stardust is building a wearable fetal monitoring device — a belly band incorporating ultrasound, acoustic sensors, and motion tracking — that uses AI to provide individualized growth curves, track fetal movement, monitor heart rate, and measure blood flow in the umbilical cord and major arteries. By selling and renting directly to parents, we make continuous monitoring accessible without further overloading overstretched OB-GYN practices.
Our team is uniquely positioned to solve this problem. Project Stardust was co-founded by parents who lost a child to stillbirth, Jann Spiess (Stanford professor specializing in ML for low-SNR data), Kathryn Zealand (founder of Skip, an AI-enabled wearable health company spun out of Google X), alongside Aris Papageorghiou (professor of fetal medicine at Oxford)
Your investment accelerates hardware development, algorithm training, and clinical pilots that will bring this technology to families who need it. Every dollar moves us closer to a world where no parent loses a child to a preventable cause.

Mission and Vision
Project Stardust aims to revolutionize pregnancy care to radically improve maternal and fetal outcomes - starting with building the first, universally accessible wearable monitor for pregnancy. The problem is urgent: there are 2M stillbirths a year globally, with ~24,000 in the US alone (1 in 150 pregnancies). Over half would be preventable with timely monitoring and intervention, yet a chronic shortage of OB-GYNs and sonographers means that expectant parents don't get the monitoring they need. We are building a wearable belly band with microphones, IMUs and ultrasound transducers, that uses ML-workflows to provide individualized growth curves, and to monitor fetal vital signs continuously to ensure timely risk-identification and alerting. The underlying technologies are clinically validated. We are assembling them into something parents will actually use - affordable, intuitive, and backed by Machine Learning that gets smarter with every device in the field.
