About New Venture Fund (FBO Alaska Venture Fund)
CCJF is making a $500,000 recoverable grant to New Venture Fund via their sponsored project Alaska Venture Fund in support of a revolving bridge fund that unlocks stranded federal and state renewable energy grants for rural Alaska communities.
This revolving loan fund will advance projects supporting community-oriented clean energy deployment across communities with Alaska Native residents. Many federal and state energy grants are reimbursable — meaning communities must pay project costs upfront before receiving government payment. Rural Alaska communities typically lack that cash, especially at the time of purchasing and shipping equipment, so fully-funded, shovel-ready projects stall before construction begins. AVF issues zero-interest recoverable loans — simple cash advances — that allow communities to pay invoices, submit receipts for federal reimbursement, and repay AVF when the reimbursement arrives. The capital then revolves back into the fund for the next project.
