About Global Fund for Coral Reefs - Sea Forward Ocean Health
The Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR) is the largest impact investment fund of its kind to date, established to invest in transformative businesses opportunities that have the potential to benefit the most climate-vulnerable communities and ecosystems on the planet. This investment is through Sea Forward Ocean Health, a multi-donor advised fund that allows small donor investors to participate pro rata in its existing larger position so that the investment is targeted just to GFCR.
With a target of $500m of investment capital1 (within a broader coalition catalyzing more than $700m), the GFCR is well-positioned to invest in relevant capital- and advice-starved, yet fast growing industries to generate market-rate financial returns. Outsized environmental and social impact targets help close the gap for critically underfunded needs on behalf of climate adaptation and Sustainable Development Goal 14, Life Below Water.
The GFCR also provides significant downside protection for investors, works in concert with a sizeable sister grant (non-dilutive) fund in partnership with the United Nations, and reduces risks and increases triple-bottom-line return potential via a local presence in key geographies. GFCR is invested in by the Sea Forward Ocean Health Fund at ImpactAssets, with returns recovered to donor accounts at CataCap should they occur.
