Sisters Project Peru

Sisters Project Peru was founded by sisters Maya and Natalie Koehn-Wu, driven by a shared belief in justice and community-led change. After visiting the Andean village of Huacahuasi in 2019, they were inspired by the community’s resilience and moved by the lack of nearby healthcare access. When the world paused during the COVID-19 pandemic, they turned that moment into action, launching Sisters Project Peru with support from experienced nonprofit mentors and operating under FNE International. From the beginning, the mission has always been clear: partnership, not prescription. Together with the people of Huacahuasi, they’ve led community health surveys, built local leadership networks, empowered women to become leaders in their community, and laid the groundwork for a community-driven health clinic that will bring essential care closer to home. Today, Sisters Project Peru continues to grow through grassroots fundraising, health education, and women’s empowerment, uniting a global network that believes health is a human right for all. At Sisters Project Peru, we believe that true health is woven from the threads of culture, community, and self-determination. That’s why we work in partnership with the people of Huacahuasi to bridge healthcare access gaps by supporting the construction and future operation of a community-led medical clinic. Beyond infrastructure, we champion holistic, locally driven solutions, from nutrition and anemia prevention to dental hygiene education. Through mentorship, education, and hands-on collaboration, community members are not just participants; they are leaders. They share knowledge, skills, and experiences with one another, strengthening local capacity to address health, nutrition, and economic challenges. This peer-to-peer approach empowers individuals, fosters lasting change, and ensures solutions are culturally rooted and sustainable.
